Guava & Dragon Fruit Necklace

Brazil Collection

35 Euros
  • Inspiration: Guava & dragon fruit

  • Materials: Gold, enamel, pink and fuchsia gemstones

  • Craft Detail: Speckled enamel center

  • Region: Tropical Brazil

  • Dish Profile: Fruity, fragrant, vibrant

The piece draws from the colors and textures of guava and dragon fruit, two fruits commonly found in Brazilian markets and used in juices, desserts, and breakfast dishes. Guava offers soft pink tones and a sweet, fragrant flavor, while dragon fruit is known for its bright fuchsia skin and white flesh dotted with black seeds. These characteristics shaped the necklace’s design: the pink gemstone reflects the guava’s hue, the speckled enamel mirrors the inside of dragon fruit, and the fuchsia stone at the base follows the fruit’s vivid exterior. In many Brazilian regions, dragon fruit is sliced fresh and served chilled.

Mei and Benjamin first encountered these fruits together at a municipal market stall where a vendor prepared fruit plates for tasting. Mei focused on the contrast between the guava’s smooth texture and the dragon fruit’s speckled interior, while Benjamin studied how the seeds formed natural, organic patterns. These observations led them to incorporate a combination of polished pink stones and a speckled enamel element. They refined the layout later in their notebooks, comparing gemstone tones to fresh fruit samples.

During a visit to a small design studio in São Paulo, a local jewellery apprentice showed Mei a polishing method that keeps enamel edges clean without softening the surface pattern. Later in the trip, Benjamin noticed how the pink façade of a neighborhood building matched one of their guava color samples, prompting them to recheck the gemstone tones under natural daylight.
