These earrings are inspired by the completo italiano, a Chilean hot dog topped with avocado, tomato, and mayonnaise. The dish is defined by its clear color contrast, soft textures, and layered assembly. These characteristics informed the jewellery design directly: avocado-green gemstones, tomato-red enamel accents, and ivory-white details are arranged in distinct layers that mirror the dish’s visual structure. The completo italiano is typically assembled fresh, with ingredients added in a fixed order to maintain balance and clarity.
Discovery
Raj and Clara encountered completos italianos at a local eatery in Valparaíso while documenting everyday food habits. They observed how ingredients are layered consistently despite high turnover, ensuring both stability and visual separation. Clara focused on the dish’s role in daily meals, while Raj examined the precise placement of each layer. These observations were translated into jewellery through clearly defined enamel fields, gemstone selection, and proportion sketches made during the visit.
